As I talked about on the podcast, a radio station in Alabama is in hot water because it’s residents are clueless rubes.
The station, Star 94.9, started airing audio of “aliens” talking and trying different formats to see what the humans liked. Yeah, that sounds exactly what would happen if aliens really did invade us: switch all of our FM stations to a HOT AC format. Children were freaking out, and many didn’t want to go to school for fear of being attacked by the extra-terrestrial DJ’s.
According to the program director:
“We came up with what we thought was a really fun storyline and that would be that these aliens or star people were hacking into the radio station,” Rickman said. “The concept being that they heard our frequency several light years away, they didn’t like Justin Bieber and the pop music we were playing and they were going to take over the radio station and adjust the format.
This modern day “War of the Worlds” scare really illustrates how simple these folks in Alabama are. Take a listen to some of the broadcast audio from Hickville, Alabama’s Star 94.9.
